Harmony In Nature

The Eternal Search For Balance
Nature is a profound teacher, an eternal force that is always searching for balance. The cycles of the seasons, the ebb and flow of tides, and the intricate dance of ecosystems all reflect this innate drive toward harmony. There is no separation from nature, no matter how much we try to convince ourselves otherwise. In our modern world, many people tell themselves the story of being separate from nature by identifying with “culture” or “civilization,” as if these constructs exist outside the natural order. But the truth is simple: all is nature, and we are not apart from it.

The Illusion Of Separation: Mistaking the Relative for the Absolute
We live in a world where the idea of disconnection is pervasive. We imagine ourselves as separate from the earth, from the environment, and even from each other. This illusion of separation feeds a belief that humanity is something “other” than nature—something superior, independent, or isolated.
Yet this belief is a distortion born from confusing relative truth with absolute truth.

Our everyday world operates entirely within the realm of relative truth. Our senses tell us that things are solid, permanent, and isolated from one another. While this perspective is functional and “true” for our daily survival, it is incomplete. It veils the deeper, underlying absolute truth: we are not separate from nature; we are nature. The same forces that shape rivers, carve mountains, and sustain forests flow within us. The same universal laws that guide the stars and keep the planets in orbit also govern our lives. Just as nature is always seeking balance and harmony, so too are we.

Human Nature As Nature’s Expression
If we look deeper, we see that our lives are expressions of nature’s longing for balance. Within us, there is an intrinsic drive to find harmony—not just with the external world, but within ourselves. Every thought, every action, every moment of joy or struggle is part of this search. Even when we are caught in chaos, even when we resist change or cling to old patterns, we are still part of nature’s process of balancing itself.

Yoga teaches us to recognize this connection. The practice of yoga is not merely physical; it is a journey inward, a process of aligning body, mind, and spirit with the greater harmony of life. Each breath we take on the mat mirrors nature’s rhythms—expansion and contraction, creation and dissolution, effort and surrender. In yoga, we learn that the search for balance begins within.

Karma and Samskara: The Dynamic of Action and Impression
This is where our understanding of karma must become precise. Karma is not a passive fate or an external system of cosmic reward; karma is action. Every physical movement, every spoken word, and every subtle movement of thought is an act of karma.

According to the philosopher and spiritual master Shrii Shrii Anandamurti, our actions do not simply vanish into the past. When we perform an action with a sense of ego—with the feeling of “I am the doer”—that action creates a corresponding mental impression, a reactive momentum known as a samskara.
A samskara is an unexpressed consequence, a seed planted in the fertile soil of the mind. It is a distortion in the mental body, a tension waiting for the right conditions to express itself and return the mind to equilibrium.

When we experience pleasure or pain, joy or sorrow, we are not experiencing random fate. We are experiencing the exhaustion, or burning away, of these past samskaras. Nature, in its cosmic drive for balance, forces these seeds to sprout so the mind can ultimately free itself from distortion.

Collective Growth as Nature’s Balancing Act
When we experience challenges, yoga invites us to shift our perspective. Instead of viewing our struggles as arbitrary punishments, we recognize them as the ripening of our own samskaras. The universe, through the playground of life, is giving us the exact conditions required to express, process, and dissolve these mental bonds.

Instead of projecting blame onto the external world, we turn inward. We ask: How can I perform my current actions (karma) without creating new chains of impressions? Anandamurti taught that by performing actions not for personal ego, but as an offering to the Divine Consciousness permeating all of nature, we stop planting new seeds of distortion. Our karma transforms from a binding chain into a liberating dance.

Evolving Toward Cosmic Harmony
Through this interplay of action and expression, we are invited to evolve. Each experience is an opportunity to burn away a layer of mental color (rupa) and become more transparently aligned with the universal flow. In this sense, samskaras are not enemies to fear; they are the natural curriculum of our soul’s education.

As these impressions dissolve, we move past the limitations of relative truths and closer to what Anandamurti defined as true spiritual realization: the alignment of the individual unit mind with the Cosmic Mind. This is the realization of perfect balance within ourselves. It is the unfolding of our highest form, where we transcend the illusions of separation and embody the total interconnectedness of all life.

Surrender To The Cosmic Flow
In this eternal process, the only way forward is surrender—not a surrender of defeat, but a surrender of alignment. Because karma is continuous, we cannot simply sit still; we must act. But we surrender the fruits of our actions to the cosmic timing. Just as a seed cannot rush its growth into a tree, we cannot force the immediate clearing of our mental storehouse. The universe has its own perfect rhythm for ripening our samskaras, and yoga teaches us to flow gracefully with that timing.

Surrendering to the moment is an act of trust—trust in nature, trust in the evolutionary process, and trust in the divine intelligence that guides all things. It is the willingness to be intensely active in our karma, yet perfectly detached from the outcome, accepting whatever experiences arise as the necessary cleansing of our path.

Returning To The Truth Of Oneness
Ultimately, the journey of life is a return to the absolute truth of oneness. The illusion of separation dissolves as we realize that relative truths—like our individual identities, personal boundaries, and temporal preferences—are just changing waves on a single, permanent ocean. We are not apart from nature, but a perfect expression of it. The same forces that balance the cosmos work within our minds, untangling our knots and guiding us toward our highest form of harmony.

Yoga is the path that leads us back to this truth. Each asana, each breath, each selfless act of service is a step toward remembering who we truly are. As individuals and as a collective, we are part of nature’s endless process of seeking balance. By transforming our karma into a sacred offering and letting our samskaras resolve in the fire of awareness, we step into the true flow of life itself. We become co-creators of harmony, joyful participants in the great cosmic dance.
